6/28/07 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Richard
Morin, brother of Waterbury Fire Driver James Morin. There are
no calling hours and funeral services are being held in Los
Angeles, California.
6/26/07 Line of Duty Death - St. Johns, MI
Our condolences to the Sanborn family and the Clinton Area Fire and
Rescue Department of St. Johns, Michigan. FireFighter Timothy Sanborn,
56, a 6 year veteran of the Clinton Area Fire and Rescue Department,
died Friday June 22, 2007. Timothy was operating a pumper at a
structure fire when he suffered a major heart attack. He was
transported to a local hospital but passed away before arriving.

6/25/07 Waterbury Fire Contingent
There will be a contingent from the Waterbury Fire Department attending the
funeral service for FDNY FireFighter Daniel Pujdak on Tuesday June 26th.

6/22/07 Line of Duty Death - FNDY, NY
Our condolences to the Pujdak family and the Fire Department of
New York City. FireFighter Daniel Pujdak, 23, a 2 year veteran of
the FDNY Ladder Company 146, died Thursday June 21, 2007. Daniel
was operating on the roof at a structure fire in the Williamsburg
section of Brooklyn when he fell four stories to the ground below.
He was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he later succumbed
to his injuries.

6/21/07 Charleston Nine Tribute Video
I found a very nice tribute video on YouTube for the Charleston Nine.
This video is 2 minutes long and includes news footage of the incident
with some music in the background. I have added the video to the
FireFighting Videos page.
6/20/07 Line of Duty Deaths - Charleston, SC
Our condolences to the families of the Charleston Nine and the Charleston
Fire Department of South Carolina. Charleston Fire responded to a structure
fire at the Sofa Super Store and warehouse in West Ashley on Monday June 18,
2007. Shortly after firefighters arrived and two employees were rescued, the
roof collapsed killing 9 firefighters.

6/19/07 Furniture Store Fire Kills Nine - Charleston, SC
Nine firefighters from the Charleston Fire Department of South Carolina
were killed last night when the roof collapsed during a structure fire
at the Sofa Super Store and warehouse. More information on this tragedy
as the information is released.
6/17/07 Joe Fischetti Returns Home
Waterbury Fire Driver Joe Fischetti returned home from Gaylord Rehabilitation
Hospital on Friday. He is resting this weekend, and will begin an out-patient
program of therapy. He will also need to travel for doctor visits from time to
time. Joe will be on this schedule for some time. Joe and Lisa would also like
to thank everyone for their help during this difficult time. Joe is facing a
long recovery, and we need to continue to support he and his family.

Bret Reis submitted these pictures from Joe Fischetti's house on June 9th.
These ramps were built by Bret, his neighbor Waterbury Police Officer Shaun
Roberts, and Joe's neighbor Larry.

The Fundraiser for Fire Driver Joseph Fischetti at the Waterville Firehouse
has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a future date to be announced.

6/14/07 Line of Duty Death - Monroe, WI
Our condolences to the Rufer family and the Monroe Fire Department
of Wisconsin. FireFighter David Rufer, 42, a 20 year veteran of the
Monroe Fire Department, died Tuesday June 12, 2007. David was perfoming
a routine training exercise, a hose drill with SCBAs, when he collapsed
from an apparent heart attack between evolutions. His brother firefighters
attempted to revive him but he was pronounced when after he was transported
to Monroe Clinic Hospital.

6/12/07 Attention WFD Members

a 3 shift color, 3 shift black & white, and each of the 3 shifts
highlighted individually.

The Waterbury Firefighters Assoc. Local 1339 in cooperation with
Riders Cafe are sponsoring a fundraiser for Waterbury Fire Captain
John Keane at Riders Cafe in Waterbury on Sunday July 29, 2007
starting at 1PM. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds will benefit the
Keane family.

6/8/07 Waterbury Fire Captain John Keane Video
I would like to thank the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper
for putting together such a touching video in memory of John Keane.
The video is 9-1/2 minutes long and includes still photos and video
from both the wake and funeral of Waterbury Fire Captain John Keane.

With over 2,300 Armpatches now, the Armpatch Gallery has almost
200 pages with a dozen images on each page so I added an Armpatch
Search Box to all the
Armpatch Gallery pages.
6/6/07 Line of Duty Death - Phoeniz, AZ
Our condolences to the Carter family and the Phoenix Fire Department
of Arizona. Fire Engineer Mark Carter, 53, a 16 year veteran of the
Phoenix Fire Department, died Monday June 4, 2007. Mark started his
shift at 8AM and responded to several medical emergency calls during
the morning. Just after noon he collapsed from an apparent heart attack
while stopping for lunch at a restaurant with his crew. His brothers
were unable to revive him and he was pronounced at the Mayo Clinic Hospital.

6/5/07 Attention WFD Members
Recently retired Waterbury Fire Driver David Caleron will be recognized for
his community service at the annual Rivera Memorial Foundation Scholarship
Banquet. The banquet will be held on Friday June 8th 6PM at the Courtyard by
Marriott on Grand Street. There will be a cocktail hour followed by dinner,
an awards ceremony and dancing. For available seating at the Waterbury

6/4/07 Armpatch Gallery Update
Today I updated the Armpatch Gallery with 24 new armpatches,
including these two submissions from the Chesterfield Township
Fire and Rescue of Michigan and the Marion Volunteer Fire
Department Station 3 of Maryland.

These new armpatches can be found on pages

and
Armpatch 199.
There are now 2,388 armpatches in the gallery.
6/1/07 Line of Duty Death - Boston, MA
Our condolences to the Middleton family and the Boston Fire
Department of Massachusetts. FireFighter David Middleton, 38, a
10 year veteran of the Boston Fire Department assigned to Engine
51, died Monday May 28, 2007. David had worked to fires during his
shift and had complained of not feeling well at the second fire.
Later that evening, while at home, he suffered a heart attack. His
brother firefighters from Ladder 23 and paramedics struggled to
keep him alive, and transported him to Boston Medical Center where
he passed away shortly after.
