11/29/07 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Arthur Chieffo,
grandfather of Waterbury Fire Lieutenant Daniel Chieffo. Calling
hours for Arthur will be held on Friday November 30, 2007 8-9AM
at St. Leo the Great Church in Waterbury followed by a funeral
mass at 9:30AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
11/28/07 Line of Duty Death - Volusia County, FL
Our condolences to the Curry family and the Volusia County Fire
Services Unit of Florida. FireFighter John Curry, 30, a member of
the Volusia County Wildland Firewalker Team, stationed at Station
41 in DeLeon Springs since January, died Tuesday November 27, 2007.
John was practicing power and chain saw use at the Volusia County
Emergency Services Institute near Daytona Beach when a pine tree
fell on him striking him in the head. He was pronounced on the
scene.

11/27/07 Waterbury Firefighters Calendars Released
The 2008 Waterbury Firefighters Calendars have been released. The premeire
signing event was a little slower than expected but Black Friday cast its
shadow. There will be a second signing event at the Crossroads Cantina in
Waterbury at a date to be announced. I also run the website for the
WaterburyFirefightersCalendar.com.

The 5th Annual Waterbury Fire Department Christmas Ornament is
also available and can be purchased online at
WaterburyFire.org.
This years ornament features Waterbury Station 4 on Baldwin Street built in 1907.

All proceeds from the sale of both the Calendar and the Ornament
benefit the
Childrens Care Burn Camp of Connecticut.
11/22/07 Line of Duty Death - Kansas City, KS
Our condolences to the Tluscik family and the Kansas City Fire
Department of Kansas. FireFighter Michael Tluscik, 48, a 15 year
veteran of the Kansas City Fire Department, died Wednesday November
21, 2007. Michael was on duty at his fire station when he collapsed
from an apparent heart attack. He was transported to a local hospital
but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

11/17/07 Line of Duty Death - Orcutt, CA
Our condolences to the Bennett family and the Orcutt Fire Department
of California. Fire Chief Ronny Bennett, 39, a 23 year veteran of the
Orcutt Fire Department, died Tuesday November 13, 2007. Ronny was paged
at home for a medical call and suffered an apparent heart attack while
preparing to depart. He was found at his residence deceased the following
day by fire department personnel.

11/14/07 Line of Duty Death - Marquette, KS
Our condolences to the Engdahl family and the McPherson County
Rural Fire Department #2 of Marquette, Kansas. Fire Chief Stanley
Engdahl, 78, the Marquetee Volunteer Fire Chief for over 20 years,
died Monday November 12, 2007. Stanley had responded to the scene
of a residential stove fire. Shortly after the fire was under
control and units were clearing the scene, he suffered an apparent
heart attack and passed away.

11/13/07 Armpatch Gallery Update
Today I updated the Armpatch Gallery with 24 new armpatches, including
these from the Converse Fire Department of South Carolina and Long Wood
Fire Rescue Department of Florida.

These new armpatches can be found on pages

There are now 2,556 armpatches in the gallery.
11/8/07 Incident Command System Training Videos
Today I updated the FireFighting Videos section with 2 new trailer videos
for Incident Command System (ICS) training systems. Click on the left
thumbnail to view the trailer from ICS Toolbox for their tabletop training
simulator. Click on the right thumbnail to view the trailer from Visual
Purple for their computer web browser based 3D training simulator.

11/6/07 Line of Duty Death - Wymore, NE
Our condolences to the Wach family and the Wymore Fire Department
of Nebraska. FireFighter Jeremy Wach, 31, a volunteer with the
Wymore Fire Department, died Monday November 5, 2007. Jeremy was
performing search and rescue for a mother and two children trapped
in an early morning residential structure fire when the roof
collapsed, trapping him and injuring two other firefighters. Jeremy
was pronounced at the scene. The mother and children were rescued
unharmed.

11/3/07 Attention WFD Members
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Rose Trainor,
mother of retired Waterbury Fire Assistant Chief and current Meriden
Fire Chief James Trainor. A visitation will be held on Sunday November
4, 2007 4-7PM at Casey-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Waterbury. A funeral
mass will be held on Monday November 5, 2007 9:30AM at Saint Francis
Xavier Church in Waterbury followed by a burial in Calvary Cemetery.
11/2/07 Line of Duty Death - Mendota, IL
Our condolences to the Mumm family and the Mendota Fire Department
of Illinois. Lieutenant Scott Mumm, 34, a 13 year veteran of the
Mendota Fire Department, died Monday October 29, 2007. Scott had
operated as a water tender at a coal rail car fire during the early
evening. After returning home, he took a nap before his other job
started at midnight. When his wife attempted to wake him, he was
unresponsive. He was transported to Mendota Community Hospital
where he died shortly after.
