Our condolences to the Frye family and the Roslyn Volunteer Fire Department of New York. Captain Allen Frye, 31, a veteran of the Roslyn Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. #1, died Monday night March 25, 2002. Allen was rolling hose after a training drill when a car crashed through orange traffic barrels and struck him and another firefighter. Both firefighters were rushed to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset where Alan was pronounced dead.

     The accident occured in a southbound lane of Glen Cove Road just north of Northern Boulevard. The other firefighter, Chris Baffa, was treated for contusions and abrasions and was listed in critical condition and released the following evening. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Detectives are still investigating the accident.

     Captain Allen Frye joined the Roslyn Rescue Fire Company on September 11, 1995. Quickly identified as a leader, Al was promoted to Lieutenant in 1997 and to Captain in 2001. Al won the coveted Firefighter of the Year Award in November 1998 for his heroic efforts at a fatal fire in Roslyn Harbor in April of the same year. Al was adored by the probationary firefighters as a teacher and respected by his peers as a leader.

     Our brother Allen leaves behind his wife, Lucia, 30, and three children, Ashley, 5, Al Jr. (A.J), 3, and Taylor Paige, 6 months.

     The Roslyn Volunteer Fire Department is still reeling from its losses on September 11, 2001, when Assistant Chief Tom Langone and Firefighter Peter Langone, brothers and 20-year veteran’s of this fire company, were killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks while performing their full time jobs as emergency workers for the City of New York.

     Allen will be reposing at McLaughlin, Kramer, Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen Street, Glen Cove, NY. Visiting Hours are Wednesday, March 27, 2002 7-9PM and Thursday, March 28 3-5PM and 7-9PM. Firematic services will be held at the same location on Thursday, March 28 at 8PM. Funeral Services for Allen will take place at St. Hyacinth’s Church, 319 Cedar Swamp Road, Glen Head on Friday, March 29, 2002 at 9:30AM. Interment to follow at Locust Valley Cemetery, 117 Ryefield Road, Locust Valley.
