Our condolences to the Williams family, the Whimple family, and the Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department of North Carolina. FireFighter Billy Williams, 45, and FireFighter Brandon Whimple, 19, both of Jacksonville, died Saturday March 24, 2007. Billy and Brandon were responding mutual aid to an abandoned mobile home fire to assist the Nine Mile Fire Department when the 1987 Chevrolet tanker they were traveling in skidded sideways and overturned, coming to rest upside down. Billy who was driving, was ejected from the vehicle, Brandon was pinned under the apparatus. Two other Rhodestown FireFighters who were responding in their personal vehicles were behind them when the crash occurred.

Rhodestown FireFighter Billy Williams was also a volunteer with Jacksonville EMS. Our brother Billy is survived by his mother Ellen Mazingo, his stepmother Mary Ann Williams, and five siblings. A visitation for Billy will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2007 10AM-12PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at the church at 12PM followed by a burial at Onslow Memorial Park.

Rhodestown FireFighter Brandon Whimple is survived by his parents, Richard and Lisa, and his brothers Brent and Brook. His brother Brent is also a member of the Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department. A visitation will be held for Brandon on Tuesday March 27, 2007 6-8PM at Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service for Brandon will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2007 2PM at Jones Funeral Home followed by a burial at Onslow Memorial Park.
