Our condolences to the Bishop family and the Bon Secour Volunteer Fire Department of Alabama. FireFighter Edna Bishop,
29, an aspiring firefighter with the Bon Secour Volunteer Fire Department, died Sunday, April 7, 2002. Edna was responding
to a brush fire when the engine she was riding in left the roadway and rolled over, landing on the driver side. Edna was
belted in the back seat when the accident occurred. The Magnolia Springs Fire Department had to extricate her from the
apparatus. Edna was rushed to USA Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries. Two other firefighters who were
riding up front were injured in the accident.
Edna had just completed her Firefighter I class in February and was headed to the Alabama Fire College. She was also the
webmaster of the
Bon Secour FD Website.
Our sister Edna leaves behind her husband, a volunteer with the Foley Fire Department, and two young children, a boy and
a girl.
Visitation for Edna will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 5-8PM at Pine Rest Funeral Home on Highway 98 in Foley. A funeral
with department honors will be held Thursday, April 11, 2002 10AM at the First Baptist Church of Foley.
