Our condolences to the Hemphill family and the Russell City Fire Department of Kansas. Chief Earl Hemphill, 61, a 35 year
veteran of the Russell City Fire Department, died Thursday April 11, 2002. Earl was directing traffic at a motor vehicle
rollover. He was struck by an arriving apparatus from Paradise that lost its brakes and also struck a sport utility vehicle. He
was transported to Russell Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Earl started as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Russell in 1967. A visitation was held for Earl on Monday, April 15, 2002
9AM-12PM at Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell. A memorial service was held Monday, April 15, 2002 2PM at Russell High
School (Amos Morris) Gymnasium in Russell, followed by a burial in the Russell City Cemetery. A memorial fund has
been established and donations can be made to:
