Our condolences to the Wilburn family and the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire
Department of Maryland. Former Fire Chief Edward Wilburn, 64, a 33 year
veteran of the Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department, died Saturday
December 9, 2006. Ed was heading to the fire station to respond to a report
of a trailer fire when he experienced a medical emergency. He lost control
of his vehicle and it left the roadway coming to rest about 25 feet from
the highway. His brother firefighters repsonded and pulled him from his
truck and attempted to resuscitate him. He was flown to Garrett County
Memorial Hospital in Oakland where he was pronounced dead.
Edward joined the Deep Creek Volunter Fire Department - Company 30 in 1973
and served previously in the capacity of Fire Chief and was the Current
President as well as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Our brother Ed leaves behind his wife Betty, his daughter Kimberly, and
his son Steven. A visitation will be held for Ed on Monday December 11,
2006 2-4PM and 7-9PM, and Tuesday December 12, 2006 2-4PM and 7-9PM at
Newman Funeral Homes in Grantsville. A funeral service will be held for
Ed on Wednesday December 13, 2006 11AM at Hoyes United Methodist Church,
followed by internment in the Hoyes Church Cemetery.
