Our condolences to the Nadeau family and the Fall River Fire Department of Massachusetts. District Fire Chief Gerald Nadeau, 51, a 25
year veteran of the Fall River Fire Department died Thursday October 24, 2002. Gerald became ill after a structure fire on September 19,
2002. He was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital this month and was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he died days later
of respiratory failure.
Gerald came from a family of firefighters. His brother, Roger Nadeau, is a former Fire Chief of New Bedford. Gerald was first appointed to
the Fall River Fire Department in 1977. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1983. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in
1984. He was promoted to the rank of District Fire Chief in 1993. He also served as a hazardous material technician for the state's
emergency response team.
Our brother Gerald leaves behind a wife and children. A wake will be held for Gerald on Monday October 28, 2002 2-4PM and 7-9PM at
Saint Thomas More Parish in Somerset. A funeral will be held Tuesday October 29, 2002 10AM at Birchcrest Funeral Home in Swansea.
