Our condolences to the Broom-Smith family and the Seaside Heights
Volunteer Fire Department of New Jersey. FireFighter John Broom-Smith,
44, a member of the Water Rescue Team and a recent graduate of Ocean
City Fire Academy, died Sunday February 4, 2007. John had responded
to an alarm activation at the Coty Marina. Firefighters cleared the
alarm and returned to the fire station. Later that night he suffered
an apparent heart attack and passed away.
John was a local surf legend and will be missed by the local surfer
community as well as by his brother firefighters. He joined the Water
Rescue Team of the department and a few months later decided take his
membership one step further and go through fire school. John graduated
on February 1, 2007 only 2 days before his passing.
Our brother John leaves behind his wife Tami, and his daughter
Nikole Rae. A viewing was be held for John on Sunday February 11,
2007 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Timothy Ryan Funeral Home in Toms River.
