Our condolences to the Martinson family and the Fire Department
of New York City. Lieutenant John Martinson, 40, a 14 year veteran
of the FDNY, died Thursday January 3, 2008. John was on Engine 249,
the first arriving company at a structure fire in the 14-story Ebbets
Field Apartments in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. He went into cardiac
arrest after running out of air. He was rescued and transported to
Kings County Hospital where he died from his burns and smoke inhalation.
John was a 4 year veteran of the NYPD in Staten Island where he won
a meritorious service medal before joining the FDNY. He is also the
son of a longtime firefighter.
Our brother John leaves behind his wife Jessica, who is expecting
their second child, and his 22 month old son John Patrick. A public
viewing for John will be held on Sunday January 6, 2008 and Monday
January 7, 2008 from 2-5PM and 7-9PM both days at Casey McCallum Rice
Funeral Home in Staten Island. A funeral for John will be held on
Tuesday January 8, 2008 11AM at St. Clare's Roman Catholic Church
in Staten Island.
