Our condolences to the Patrick family, the Gwinnett County Fire
Department, and the Rome Fire Department of Georgia. Lieutenant
John Patrick, 54, a 15 year veteran of the Gwinnett County Fire
Department and a 9 year veteran of the Rome Fire Department
died Monday April 14, 2003. John responded from Station 3 in
Lilburn to an early morning and second structure fire in 15 hours
at the Holly Rollers Motorcycle Repair Shop. He was preparing to
ventilate the roof with other firefighters when he collapsed from
an apparent heart attack. He was transported to East Side
Medical Center where he later died.
The first fire at 8:17PM was outside burning and took one
company from Fire Station 23 about 5 minutes to extinguish.
The second alarm came in 15 hours later at 2:50AM. This time
multiple companies responded to the working fire. The blaze is
considered highly suspicious and is being investigated.
Our brother John leaves behind his wife Mary. A visitation will
be held for John on Friday April 18, 2003 11-12:30PM at Tapp
Funeral Home in Buford. A memorial service for John will be
held following the visitation on Friday at 1PM at the First
