Our condolences to the Fahey family and the United States Forest
Service of Cordesville, South Carolina. FireFighter Kenneth Fahey, 35,
a 6 year veteran of the Forest Service, died Thursday January 25, 2007.
Kenneth was returning from a controlled burn when his 3/4-ton forest
service truck crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided head-on
with a tractor-trailer driven by Lonnie Nettles, 43. Both vehicles
caught fire after the impact and both drivers were pinned in their
vehicles and died at the scene.
Kenneth joined the Forest Service in 2001 and was stationed at Pisgah
Ranger District near Brevard, North Carolina. In 2005, he moved his
family to the Witherbee Ranger Station at Francis Marion National Forest in
South Carolina. He also worked with the Asheville Hotshots and the Malheur
Rappell Crew.
Kenneth Leaves behind his wife Amy, his son Claine, and his daughter
Megan. A memorial service for Kenneth will be held Friday February 2, 2007
2:30PM at the First Baptist Church of Bonneau in Bonneau South Carolina.
