Our condolences to the Jones family and the Roswell Fire Department of New Mexico. Chief Louis Jones, 46, a 20 year
veteran of the Roswell Fire Department, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002. Louis died from a gunshot wound to the head that
he sustained on March 16 while responding to a house explosion.
Chief Jones received a gunshot wound to the head from a burn victim he and others were attempting to assist at the
scene of a house explosion. After 10 days in the hospital Louis succumbed to complications resulting from the injury.
Although he was unconscious, he was able to respond to his wife and brothers by holding their hands. Two others died
from gunshot wounds at the scene of the incident including EMT Steve Lovato and neighbor Randy Houghton who’s
3-year-old son Kordale, was also shot and critically wounded.
Our brother Louis leaves behind his wife, Carol, who is a firefighter in Fort Worth, Texas and his sons Cody and Marty,
a Chaves County sheriff's deputy. A fund has been established to help the Jones, Lovato, and Houghton families.
