Our condolences to the Webb family and the Newark Fire Department. Lawrence Webb, 37, a second
generation firefighter and 15-year veteran with the Newark Fire Department, died of a massive heart
attack during a structure fire May 22, 2001. Lawrence suffered a heart attack while fighting a fire in a
two and a half story house. He was rescued from the building in cardiac arrest. He was transported to
Clara Maass Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other firefighters who were working with
him on the fire floor suffered injuries.
Webb is survived by his father Willie Webb, a retired captain of the Newark Fire Department, and his
brother, Bryan who just joined the force last November.
Arrangements are as follows: Viewing will be at St. James A.M.E. Church, on Court Street between Dr. Martin Luther King
Blvd and Shipman Street on Friday, May 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. The funeral will be
held Saturday, May 26 at 10:00 AM at St. James A.M.E. Church.
