Fallen Brothers» Mario Guerrero

Line of Duty Death      Our condolences to the Guerrero family and the Provo Fire Department, Life Flight, and the Lone Peak Fire District of Utah. FireFighter Paramedic and Flight Medic Mario Guerrero, 38, a 10 year veteran of the Provo Fire Department died Friday January 10, 2003. Mario was responding to an MVA rollover when the LDS Hospital-based Life Flight helicopter he was responding in crashed near Interstate 80. The pilot, Craig Bingham, 32 was also killed. Flight Nurse Stein Rosqvist survived the crash and was transported to LDS Hospital in critical condition for severe chest and back injuries.

The crew was enroute to Wendover when they encountered a heavy fog and attempted to return to the airport. The cause of the crash is unknown. The helicopter crashed on its belly in a field east of downtown Salt Lake City. The fog was so thick that rescuers had to follow the smell of fuel to find the site.

While working as a full-time acting captain for the Provo Fire Department for 10 years, Mario also worked part-time as a Life Flight paramedic since October 2001 for the Lone Peak Safety District in Utah. Before moving to Utah, Mario also served as a civilian firefighter at the Camp Roberts Fire Department. Our brother Mario leaves behind his wife Terri and four children; Abbie (17), Amanda (15), Andrew (5), and Alexis (3).

Funeral services for Mario will be held Wednesday January 15, 2003 10AM at UVSC David O. McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah. Graveside services will follow at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery and a reception will be held at the McKay Events Center. A memorial service is planned for Mario and the pilot, Craig Bingham, on Friday January 17, 2003 10AM at Cottonwood High School. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to:
