FireFighter Michael Sowich, 50, a 16 year veteran of the fire
service, died Friday March 2, 2007. Michael passed away in his
dorm room while attending a training seminar at the National
Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The cause of death is
under investigation.
Michael was a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Army and was also a
medical specialist reservist with the 331st General Hospital Unit.
He was a member and the training officer for the Sherrill-Kenwood
Fire Deptartment as well as the Fire Inspector for the
city of Sherrill. Michael recently joined the New Hartford Fire
Department and had attained the position of State Fire Instructor
for the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
Our brother Michael leaves behind his wife Barbara, and his
daughter Lisa Marie. A visitation for Michael will be held on
Wednesday March 7, 2007 4-8PM at Eannace Funeral Home in Utica.
A funeral service for Michael will be held on Thursday March 8,
2007 11:30AM at the funeral home followed by a 1PM funeral mass
at Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Utica. A scholarship fund
has been established for his daughter Lisa, in lieu of flowers
