Fallen Brothers» Osceola Training Tragedy

Line of Duty Death      Our condolences to the Begg and Mickel families and the Osceola County Fire-Rescue of Florida. FireFighter Dallas Begg, 20, and Lieutenant John Mickel, 32, died Tuesday July 30, 2002. Initially it was reported that Dallas and John were killed when the ceiling/roof collapsed trapping them during a live burn training exercise near Kissimmee. Investigators have ruled out a collapse and believe the room they were in may have flashed over. The incident is still under investigation.

Lt. John Mickel, a 9-year veteran of the Osceola County Fire-Rescue, was promoted to Lieutenant in 1997. He received his certification at the Central Florida Fire Academy, graduating in the top ten of his class. Before joining the department, John was a Volunteer FireFighter/EMT for the Campbell City Volunteer Fire Department. Our brother John leaves behind his wife, Carlotta and his two children, Dillon (3) and Mallory (19 mos). Visitation for John will be held on Friday August 2, 2002 5-9PM at Osceola Memory Gardens. A funeral will be held for John on Saturday August 3, 2002 11:30AM at the Holy Redeemer Church in Kissimmee.

FireFighter Dallas Begg had only joined the Osceola County Fire-Rescue on July 22, 2002. He received his EMT training at Valencia Community College in December of 2000. Our brother Dallas leaves behind his wife Rachel whom he just wed in March. Visitation for Dallas will be held Sunday August 4, 2002 5-9PM at Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Halls in Kissimmee. A funeral will be held for Dallas Monday August 5, 2002 5:30PM at Tupperwarein Kissimmee.

A memorial trust fund for the families has been established and donations can be sent to:
