Fallen Brothers» Letter of Appreciation - Robin McDonald November 21, 2000
My children and I would like to extend our appreciation to the members of the Waterbury Fire
Department. For your generosity and support at this difficult time in our lives. To everyone who has contributed to the
children's fund, words cannot express my gratitude.
I want to thank the members of the Waterbury Fire Union and the Special Services Unit, who were
here shortly after learning about Kevin's death with support, friendship, and food for Kevin's family and friends. The
help from both groups in planning Mac's funeral was astonishing. It was as if Mac planned the event himself. Kevin always
said he wanted to go out big and with your help I was able to accomplish just that. I thank you.
To the Fireman's Aid who gave the reception at The Hills following the funeral, I am most
grateful. It was a nice lunch with friends and family to remember the good times we had with Kevin and to raise a glass
or two in his honor.
Finally, I would like to thank 'The Brain' for rushing over that night so that Kelly, Robert,
and I didn't have to hear the news of Mac's sudden death by some stranger. I can't thank you enough for all the love,
comfort, and support you gave us that night and continue to give us today. Not a day goes by that I don't hear from one
of 'The Brain'. You guys and your wives are family, as Mac would say, 'I love you, man'. I love you all dearly.
Kevin was one of a kind. I never realized just how many people knew and loved the guy until the
night of his wake, over 500 people attended. Mac would have been amused. He loved his job as a firefighter and being
part of that special brotherhood. He enjoyed helping people out of a jam and he appreciated a good practical joke,
especially if it involved water and balloons. He will be greatly missed but we can keep his spirit alive by telling
those stories of all the stupid things he did, of which there are many, and laugh.
Once again I thank you all for your support, friendship, and generosity. Kevin has left me
with a lot of great friends in the Waterbury Fire Department and I thank him for that.
Stay safe.
