Richard Shoaf Jr., 43, a 26 year veteran of the Swarthmore Fire and Protection Association, died Saturday, August 18,
2001. Richard was responding to a medical emergency in the Borough of Swarthmore when he became ill and
collapsed while at the station of an apparent heart attack.
Richard had a life history with the fire services. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Swarthmore Fire and Protection
Association. He was a Lieutenant, Foreman, Engineer and House Chairman. He was also a 21 year Life Member of the
South Media Fire Company, where he was the Recording Secretary and was a Captain prior. Richard was also active
with the Rutledge Fire Company, and a past member of the Parkside Fire Company.
Visitation hours are Tuesday, August 21, 2001, 7:00PM at the Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home in Media. A
memorial funeral is to be held Wednesday, August 22, 2001, 9:30AM at the Our Lady of Charity in Brookhaven.
