Our condolences to the Walter family and the Napanoch, New York Volunteer Fire Department. FireFighter Rex Walter, 69, a
43 year veteran of the Napanoch Volunteer Fire Department, died Sunday, February 10, 2002. Rex had arrived at his fire
station to respond to a chimney fire with a tanker. While putting on his turnout gear, he collapsed and died from an apparent
heart attack.
Rex was honored as Firefighter of the Year in 1989, 1994, and 1995. Also in 1994 he was named District Fireman of the Year
for responding to the most calls of any member in the department. Rex was a retired correction officer.
Our brother Rex leaves behind his wife, Debra. A memorial funeral was held Thursday, February 14, 2002, in nearby
Ellenville with the procession going past the firehouse. Memorial donations can be sent to:
