Our condolences to the Whittaker family and the Marshallberg Fire Department
of Marshallberg, North Carolina. FireFighter Robert Whittaker, 55, a volunteer
with the Marshallberg Fire Department for three months but with 10 years in
the fire service, died Tuesday November 14, 2006. Robert was responding as
mutual aid to assist the Harker's Island Fire Department at an early morning
structure fire when he suffered a heart attack while operating a rescue truck.
The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before coming to rest.
Marshallberg Fire Chief Bryan Blake and firefighter Jeff Heyland were also
in the vehicle but were not seriously injured in the crash.
Our brother Robert leaves behind his wife, Judy, and his three grown children,
daughter, Tara Spruill, and sons, Robert and Daniel. The family will receive
friends on Friday November 17, 2006 1-2PM at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead
City, followed by a memorial service at 2PM. Flower are welcome or memorial
