Our condolences to the Hall family and the Upland Volunteer Fire
Department of Upland, Indiana. FireFighter Sidney Hall, 52, a 15
year volunteer with the Upland Volunteer Fire Department, died
Friday January 5, 2007. Two days earlier, Sidney had responded to
a structure fire at the home of a Marion Firefighter. After taking
a few steps in the front door, Sidney fell into the basement
through a hole that the fire had burned. He was rescued by his
fellow firefighters and airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort
Wayne. He succumbed to his injuries two days later. Seven other
firefighters were injured during the rescue.
Sidney joined the Upland Volunteer Fire Department in 1991 and
served as the Department Secretary and Training Coordinator for
10 years. He was also an Indiana First Class Firefighter with an
Indiana Master in Arson Investigation and was a Certified NFPA
Fire Instructor.
Our brother Sidney leaves behind his wife, Bonnie, and his two
sons, Christopher and Matt. A visitation will be held for Sidney
on Friday January 12, 2007 2-8PM at Rediger Chapel at Taylor
University in Upland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday
January 13, 2007 10AM at Odle Gymnasium at Taylor University.
Internment will be at Green Park Cemetery in Portland. Memorial
