Our condolences to the Olinik family and the Rome Volunteer Fire
Department of Ohio. FireFighter Steve Olinik, 65, a veteran volunteer
firefighter of the Rome Volunteer Fire Department, died Friday March
30, 2007. Steve had responded to the station on Thursday, March 29th
for a mutual aid response to a report of a grass fire when he suffered
a heart attack and collapsed at the station. He was transported to
Ashtabula County Medial Center where he passed away the next day.
Steve began his career as a firefighter with the Saybrook Township
Fire Department in the 1960s. He then volunteered with the Dorset
Township Fire Department before joining the Rome Volunteer Fire
Department in 1989. Steve also worked for the New Lyme Township
Road Department for 15 years before retiring in 2004.
Our brother Steve leaves behind his son Doug, also a member of the
Rome Volunteer Fire Department, and his step-daughter Bonnie. A
funeral service for Steve will be held on Saturday April 7, 2007
12PM at the Rome Township Fire Hall followed by a burial at
Brownville Cemetery in New Lyme Township.
