Steve Rucker
Our condolences to the Rucker family and the Novato Fire Protection
District of California. Fire Engineer Steve Rucker, 38, an 11 year
veteran of the Novato Fire Protection District died Wednesday October
29, 2003. Steve died from injuries sustained when him and his crew of
Engine 6162 were overrun by the Cedar Fire in San Diego County near
Wynola. Three other members of his crew were injured in the incident.

Our brother Steve leaves behind his wife, Catherine, his daughter
Kerstin, 8, and his son Wesley, 3. A memorial fund has been established

Captain Doug McDonald, 48, a 17 year veteran of the Novato Fire
Protection District received burns over 18% of his body. He is in
critical condition at the San Diego Burn Facility and expected to
recover. A trust fund has been established and donations can be

Fire Engineer Shawn Kreps, 35, a 7 year veteran of the Novato
Fire Protection District recieved minor burns and was treated
and released.

FireFighter/Paramedic Barrett Smith, 28, a member of the Novato Fire
Protection for only 1 year also received minor burns and was treated
and released.
