Our condolences to the Neglia family and the North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue Department of West New York, New Jersey. Acting Captain Vincent Neglia, 45, an 18 year veteran with the North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue Department died Saturday September 9, 2006. Vincent was searching for victims on the third floor of a three story apartment building in Union City when fire broke into the area he was searching, trapping him. He was rescued by a hose team and rushed to St. Mary's Hospital in Hoboken where he was pronounced dead. Another firefighter was burned at the incident.

     Vincent was assigned to Engine Company 13, but was detailed to Squad 2 the night of his last fire. Vincent was an emergency medical technician before becoming a firefighter. He was one of the first to volunteer to search for survivors at ground zero on September 11th after the terrorist attacks. After buying a Harley-Davidson eight months before his death, he helped start the New Jersey chapter of the American Firefighters Motorcycle Club. He had intended to join a group of Chicago firefighters riding to ground zero that very same day.

     Our brother Vincent leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, and his daughter, Nicole. A viewing for Vincent was held Wednesday September 13, 2006 2-8PM at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in North Bergen, NJ. A funeral was held for Vincent on Thursday September 14, 2006 11AM at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. Following church services, an honor procession will march past the quarters of Engine Company 13 and then to Braddock Park for the collation.
