Fallen Brothers» William Goodrich Jr.

Line of Duty Death      Our condolences to the Goodrich family and the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department of Pennsylvania. Assistant Chief William Goodrich Jr., 56, a 39 year veteran of the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department died Saturday August 17, 2002. William was incident command at a residential structure fire when he collapsed from an apparent heart attack. He was transported to North Hills Passavant Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

     William was home, only one block from the scene, when the call ame in. He was first on scene and entered the building for a quick size up. He found an attic fire and exited the building to assume command. William was the owner of Goodrich Automotive of Hampton Township, where he worked for the past 25 years. William held every rank of the department, including chief of the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Department. He responded to over 4500 fire calls in his 39 years with the department. He was also a past president of the Northern Area Fire Chiefs Association. He was recognized for his involvement in sending fire equipment to the areas damaged by Hurricane Andrew, and he received the Heart of Hampton Award in 2000.

     Our brother William leaves behind his wife, Penny, 4 stepchildren and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be held Monday August 19, 2002 3-9PM and Tuesday noon-9PM and Wednesday noon-9PM at Herbert King Funeral Home in Hampton Township. A firefighters memorial service will be held Tuesday August 20, 2002 7PM in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday August 21, 2002 at noon in the funeral home, followed by a procession to the North Hampton Volunteer Fire Station, 5149 North Pioneer Road in Gibsonia, where a service will be held at 1PM.
